Today, I had handled one job on my home PC (AMD Sempron 2800+, 512MB) for check-run. The number of DOFs was over 400,000, and the minimum memory required should be at least 10 GBytes, because the complex geometric model and dozens of contact pairs in thermal-mechanical coupled FEA. This means that for 32-bit PC (3GB~2^32), there is nothing I can do for this kinds of problems, probably. Actually this is the first time I have met the limitation of computers due to the size of problems. Tomorrow I will try the parallel computation on the UNIX server. The commond reads "abaqus job=name parallel=domain domains=n1 cpus=n2", and I hope this will be the possible solution for my project. The last solution we have would be to reduce the model size, losing the precision for obtaining the efficiency of the calculation.
